Improving patient care was the goal of a study day held by NHS Lanarkshire’s tissue viability service.

The staff event, held at the Ronald Miller Suite in Wishaw General, attracted more than 70 delegates.

Mhairi Stewart, tissue viability nurse, facilitated a workshop on Formulary Products at the study day.

She said: “The aim of the event was to inform and educate staff on the latest developments, products and evidence based practice in wound management and to improve clinical care.”

NHS Lanarkshire’s tissue viability service, based at Cleland Hospital, aims to provide a range of specialist professional advice and support to healthcare staff on wound management and ulcer prevention and management.

At the event a number of presentations were given by experts in fields related to tissue viability, on subjects such as: Scottish patient safety, wound assessment, infection control and multidisciplinary management of the diabetic foot.

In addition to these presentations there were workshops held on approved wound management products, dermatology, biofoam larvae, and nutrition.

A number of stalls were also available showing the latest developments from medical firms such as Systagenix, Advancis Medical, Hill-Rom and Frontier Medical.

Mhairi added: “It was a big success and the feedback we received was very positive.”
