Local residents in North Motherwell can take advantage of having their very own food community co-op right on their doorstep.
The ‘Near not Dear’ food co-op is open Monday to Wednesday from 10am to 2pm within the Pat Cullinan Community Centre.
The not-for-profit store sells everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to bread, milk and toilet paper. They have all those last minute emergency items and essentials you may run out of, many of which at a much lower price than you would get at a supermarket.
The store is able to charge such low prices thanks to the fact that it is run by local volunteers.
Bill Martin, Chairman of the ‘Near Not Dear’ food co-op, said: “We have been running this store in the community for over 15 years.
“We have many regular customers but we would like to remind other local residents that we are still very much open for business.
“Anyone who has not visited the shop before should come along and see the variety of products we have on offer – all at very competitive prices.”
The ‘Near Not Dear’ food co-op is supported by both NHS Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council.
Annette Harvie, NHS Lanarkshire Public Health Practitioner, said: “The Near Not Dear store has a real community spirit about it. They regularly supply fruit and vegetables to local schools, community mother groups and church groups free of charge.
“Their aim is to sell quality fresh produce, at affordable prices, to people who might otherwise struggle to access it and to get everyone eating their five a day.”
