HRH The Prince Royal meets staff at Hairmyres Hospital
HRH The Princess Royal visited Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, on Wednesday 18 February 2009 to see first hand a new service for heart patients.
Hairmyres Hospital is one of two centres in the West of Scotland providing an optimal reperfusion service, commonly known as primary angioplasty or PPCI, which means that patients having a heart attack due to a blocked artery will receive a procedure to unblock the artery within 90 minutes of their diagnosis.
During the visit HRH The Princess Royal met with staff, and was provided with a demonstration of the optimal reperfusion service and will see a live procedure being carried out. A plaque commemorating the start of the service was unveiled.
