As a result of a fire which occurred on the morning of Sunday 8 November 2009, all services and appointments which were due to take place at the John Street Surgery in Bellshill will now take place at Bellshill Community Health Clinic.

Appointments which are scheduled from Monday 9 November onwards will be held in Bellshill Community Health Clinic, on Greenmoss Place just off Bellshill Main Street.

The telephone lines for John Street Surgery are still in operation as they have been redirected to the reception at Bellshill Community Health Clinic.

Colin Sloey, NHS Lanarkshire Director of North Lanarkshire CHP, said:

“A serious blaze occurred at John Street Surgery in Bellshill at some point between the hours of 7am-8am on Sunday 8 November.

The fire and police services were in attendance at the site. Unfortunately the extent of the fire has left the building in a serious state of disrepair.

In accordance with our business continuity plans, measures were taken immediately to put in to place alternative arrangements for the patients who are registered with the practice. All services and appointments which were due to take place at the John Street Surgery will now take place at the Bellshill Community Health Clinic.

All electronically held medical records have been restored using the information technology recovery plans that were in place. This approach has ensured that all ongoing care needs of the patients will be met without disruption.

With the support of Strathclyde Police, the building was immediately secured to ensure that no one could access the building to obtain personal records, drugs or medical equipment which was stored within the surgery. As building control officers have deemed the building unsafe, the area that surrounds the surgery has been fenced off and 24 hour security has been put into place.

All paper and electronic records that could safely be recovered have been retrieved and securely stored. Plans are in place to recover the remaining information and equipment, which was not damaged by the fire, when it is safe to do so.

Any registered patients wishing to contact the practice can continue to do so on the existing telephone number 01698 749122."
