Staff at Wishaw General’s Medical Day Unit were delighted to receive a cheque for £500 recently.
Agnes Hamilton, from Carluke, who receives bone treatment every month in the unit, raised the fantastic sum at her 80th birthday.
She said: “I attend the department every month and the staff have been so good to me that I wanted to do something to help them.
“For my 80th birthday I decided that instead of presents I’d ask for people to donate money but I was surprised we raised so much.
“I get on really well with the team so it was great to be able to give something back.”
Derek McKee, deputy charge nurse, said: “Agnes is a fantastic woman and we all have a great laugh with her when she comes in.
“It’s absolutely brilliant that she thought of us like this and raised so much money and it’s very much appreciated.
“This money will be put to our endowment fund for the purchase of little extras for the benefit of patients and their relatives.”
