THORACIC (lung surgery) is currently provided at Hairmyres Hospital.

Outpatient appointments are provided at Monklands and Hairmyres Hospitals.

The Minister for Health has given the seal of approval to the proposal to transfer thoracic surgery from Hairmyres Hospital and create one of the UK’s largest specialist heart and lung surgery units at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank.

Inpatient thoracic surgery will transfer from to the Golden Jubilee towards the end of 2007, which will also incorporate cardiothoracic services currently provided at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Western Infirmary.

Outpatient services for thoracic patients will continue to be provided in Lanarkshire as at present.
