Stroke Services

Lanarkshire stroke services continue to provide expert care

Our stroke units are open and we encourage patients with symptoms of stroke not to avoid hospital and, in particular, to follow FAST advice. If you believe you may be having a stroke or spot the signs of a stroke, please call 999 straight away.

Signs of stroke – FAST

  • Face: Can the person smile? Has their face fallen on one side?
  • Arms: Can the person raise both arms and keep them there?
  • Speech: Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say? Is their speech slurred?
  • Time: If you see any of these three signs, it’s time to call 999.

North Lanarkshire Stroke Neuro Team

The North Lanarkshire Stroke Neuro Team are now able to carry out community visits for all priorities to assess/treat and support patients referred to the service or patients already on the caseload.

Outpatients services will also be re started gradually. This will ensure that if a telephone consultation or Near Me intervention does not meet the needs of the client then if agreed a visit can be arranged and carried out using appropriate PPE.

Currently restrictions are still impacting on some clinic services across Lanarkshire, as a result of this there will still be some delays in resuming ‘normal’ services but we anticipate that this will improve as restrictions gradually reduce.

We will be able to offer services via home visits and out patients appointments although numbers will be limited initially in relation to out patients.
