Strathcarron Hospice Day Care and Home Care

Strathcarron Hospice Day Care

Many patients may choose to use our Day Care facilities at Strathcarron. Our Day Hospice provides an opportunity to access a wide range of services from our specialist team. This includes medical advice, nursing support, complementary therapies, practical help from our Social Work team, spiritual support from our Chaplaincy or simply enjoying the relaxed, social atmosphere in our bright and comfortable Day Care lounge. It is up to each individual patient – they may choose to have their hair done, or take part in creative activities. Families need a break from caring and the Strathcarron Day Care facilities provide the reassurance that their loved one is being well looked after.

Strathcarron Hospice Home Care

The Strathcarron Specialist Community Nurses have been operating from the hospice for over 20 years, visiting people in their own home environment and other community settings. They work closely with GPs and District Nurses providing care and support for people who are living with progressive illness such as cancer and neurological conditions. We aim to help you get the best available information, treatment and support for the duration of your contact with us.

All the nurses have a great deal of experience in general nursing and palliative care as well as specialist training, so that they can help support you whether your needs are physical, emotional, social or spiritual. Some of the nurses have specialist knowledge in caring for people with neurological disorders such as Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
Each team member is responsible for a geographical area within either Forth Valley, Cumbernauld or Kilsyth. Covering an assigned area assists with the development of good working relationships with other Health Care Providers who work in that same area. However, more importantly, we hope being visited by the same community nurse will make it easier for and your family to get to know them well.

You will be referred to our service by your GP, District Nurse or Hospital Specialist. Once we receive your details, we will contact you by telephone to arrange a suitable time to visit you at home. We are happy to see you on your own or with your family if this is what you prefer. We will then assess your needs to find out where you may need help. This might be in controlling your symptoms, providing emotional support or assistance with financial or practical matters. We are also able to offer support to your family and, depending on your circumstances, close friends.
