Appointments
Your first appointment takes approximately 1 hour. Return appointments usually take between 15-20 minutes. While we aim to minimise any waiting time, occasionally at busy clinics this may be unavoidable. Before you leave, please make sure that you have your next appointment.
Remember to bring a urine sample and your maternity care plan to each antenatal visit.
Scanning
We will offer you an ultrasound scan to confirm how many weeks pregnant you are. If you are uncertain about having a scan, please tell the midwife who will be happy to discuss this with you. If you wish to have a scan, please drink 1 pint of fluid before your appointment (not milk). This helps to fill your bladder and makes it easier to get a clear picture of your baby.
You do not need a full bladder if you are scanned after 14 weeks of pregnancy.
Most women receive a picture of their scan. These pictures are printed on Fax paper and as time goes past the picture may fade. Do not laminate the picture, as the image is lost with the heat of the laminator. It may be possible to photocopy the picture. Please remember that if scan pictures are lost they cannot be replaced.
Specialist Clinic
If you have an existing medical problem such as diabetes, we will see you at the specialist clinic at Wishaw General Hospital.
