A&E services are available at each of Lanarkshire’s 3 hospitals – Hairmyres, Monklands and Wishaw.
The number of people attending A&E is rising every year but many people could have been treated by their GP, local pharmacist or optometrist.
Examples of the types of injuries and illness that should be seen at A&E are:
- Stroke
- Heart attack or sudden chest pains
- Broken limbs
- Any sprain which cannot bear any weight at all
