Nutrition in Under Fives

Aim:

The session aims to highlight exclusive breastfeeding as the optimal infant feeding choice for parents. It will emphasise the importance of continued breastfeeding as part of the growing baby's diet beyond the first year. The session will also discuss the weaning process and the importance of establishing healthy eating habits in the early years, particularly in the context of childhood obesity.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Awareness of the short and long term benefits of breastfeeding for both women and children.
  • Knowledge of the legislation to protect and support breastfeeding.
  • Knowledge of appropriate food and drink choices for each stage of weaning.
  • Increased knowledge of the current recommendations on the nutritional needs of children under 5 and how these differ from adults.
