Dalziel Centre

The Dalziel Centre is a Day Hospice for patients with cancer in Lanarkshire. It is based at Strathclyde Hospital in Motherwell and offers emotional psychological and social support to patients, carers and families who live with a cancer diagnosis.

The Centre helps patients live with their cancer with confidence and dignity and offers carers respite for the day while patients receive support in a safe and comfortable environment. Patients can be referred by GPs, district nurse, Macmillan nurse, hospital staff, social workers and the St Andrew’s Hospice.

Drop in

Anyone from the Motherwell and Wishaw areas can also drop in every Monday from 9am to 5pm. Alternatively you can call the helpline on 01698 245076.

Information and Advice

The specialist nurse and team of nursing staff cab offer advice and information. There is also an information centre where you can access the Lanarkshire Cancer Information Service.

Clinics

Pain and symptom clinics run twice a week for patients who have complex pain issues. These are available via GP referral. Counselling Counselling will help you to look at problems you are facing in a safe and supportive environment. Patients who attend the Dalziel Unit are offered this service.

Aromatherapy

Cancer patients and their main carers can benefit from the aromatherapy services. Other services available include:

  • Chiropody Dieticians
  • Physiotherapy
  • Financial Advice

Support Groups

The following support groups are held regularly in the Centre:

  • Breast Support Group – meets the first Monday of each month from 7pm to 9pm
  • Colorectal Support Group – meets the first Thursday of each month from 7pm to 9pm.

Friends of Dalziel

Friends of Dalziel is a registered charity that raises funds for the benefit of the cancer patients in the Unit. They have an office at 82 Hamilton Road, Motherwell and you can contact them on 07867686190.

Transport

Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust is a charity whose work involves providing volunteer drivers to take cancer patients to and from appointments for hospital, clinics, and day care. No charge is made to patients for this transport.
