Introduction
The Continence Advisory Service provides treatment to people who suffer from this common, but curable, problem. It is a nurse-led service and members of the public can book an appointment at one of the clinics without having to be referred by a doctor. Continence problems affect about five to nine per cent of the adult population in Scotland. It is estimated that 40 per cent wait up to 15 years before seeking treatment. Specialist help is readily available and in most cases the condition can be cured. More about continence problems is also available from The Continence Foundation.
