About the Act
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 came into force on 1 January 2005. The Act aims to promote openness and accountability by ensuring that any person that requests information held by a Scottish Public Authority, including NHS Lanarkshire, will receive that information – subject to certain exemptions.
The Act requires us to adopt a publication scheme which lists the type of information we will regularly publish and you may find many of these documents through the publications pages of this website.

Your Response
- You will receive a response within 20 working days.
- Some requests may incur a charge but you will be informed of this before you receive a final response.
Information Exemptions
- Some information you request may be exempt from publication.
- These exemptions are listed in the Act and include confidential and personal information such as medical records.
- If some or all of the information you request is exempt this will be explained when we respond to your request.
