Volunteer Reception
Around 100 volunteers attended a special event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the NHS.
Held on Wednesday October 8, in the banqueting suite of South Lanarkshire Council’s headquarters, the attendees represented a range of voluntary organisations from across Lanarkshire.
It was organised by NHS Lanarkshire to recognise the efforts of the 400 or so individuals from across Lanarkshire who give up some of their time to support a variety of voluntary projects or initiatives.
NHS Lanarkshire’s voluntary services manager Katrina Murray said she had “the best job in the world” as it allowed her to meet so many committed and unselfish people.
Paying tribute to all those who volunteer in Lanarkshire, she said: “We’re blessed to have so many wonderful people who are willing to give up some of their time.
“This event was organised to allow us to say a small thank-you to them and to all the NHSSNH volunteers who have given some of their time down the years.”
NHS Lanarkshire chair, Ken Corsar added: “Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the NHS in Lanarkshire and an event such as this gives me and the organisation the chance to say to many of them face to face, ‘thank you for your efforts’.”
Hugh Sweeney, NHS Lanarkshire employee director and organiser of NHS Lanarkshire’s 60th anniversary celebrations, said: “It was a pleasure and a delight to meet so many of the volunteers and having done so, I can concur with Katrina Murray’s sentiments that she has the best job in the world.”
