Charity Ball

On Friday, August 15 at the Hilton Hotel, Strathclyde Business Park, Bellshill, a charity ball was held for NHS Lanarkshire staff.
The Ball helped raise over £2000 for the local mental health charity Lanarkshire Links.
NHS Lanarkshire employee director and organiser of the 60th anniversary celebrations, Hugh Sweeney, said: "We feel the 60th anniversary is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of a service which is often overlooked by fundraising events but provides an indispensable service."
"The event proved a huge success and everyone who attended was happy to contribute to this very worthwhile group."
One in four (100,000) people in Lanarkshire will experience a mental health problem at some stage in their life and 75 per cent of us will know someone personally who has a mental health problem.
Despite the fact that most people in Lanarkshire will have some personal experience of mental ill health, stigma, discrimination and inequality experienced by people, young and old, who have or have had mental health care needs is common place within our society.
This impacts on individuals, families, communities and society as a whole. Most significantly it stops people recovering their lives.
This year Lanarkshire Links, which celebrates its 10th anniversary is developing the Lanarkshire Recover Network (LRN) to:
1. Raise awareness of recovery and the things that help and hinder, through promotional materials, seminars, workshops, DVDs and website.
2. Develop a better understanding of what is meant by recovery, promoting hope and belief that change is possible by sharing stories of people’s recovery to inspire others.
3. Support and encourage local action towards recovery by supporting development.
NHS Lanarkshire is proud to support Lanarkshire Links and the Recover Network.
